Enjoying the outdoors during pollen season

It may seem that your allergies are getting worse each year, and it is not your imagination. As the earth continues to warm up, flowers and trees bloom earlier resulting in an earlier start to pollen season and an increase in pollen. For those who suffer from pollen allergies and have asthma, the increase in pollen production and the longer duration of pollen season could cause worse symptoms. Here are some tips from to reduce the effects of pollen:

  • Stay indoors when the pollen count is high and when it is windy outside.
  • Keep windows shut during the day and night and use air conditioning to cool your home.
  • Filter your air.
  • When you come in from outdoors, change your clothes and rinse off.
  • Avoid the outdoors early in the morning.
  • Try over-the-counter treatments.
  • Rinse your sinuses with a saline solution.
  • Talk to your doctor about prescriptions and alternative treatments.
