Guide to Exercise

The National Institutes of Health recommends that adults do a minimum of 2 ½ hours of moderate intensity aerobic activity each week. This averages out to about 30 minutes per day, 5 days a week. You do not have to do the entire 30 minutes at one time. You could break it into two 15 minute sessions or even three 10 minute sessions each day. Moderate activity does not mean running a race or even going to the gym.

Below are some simple and inexpensive ways to move more and achieve your 30 minutes of exercise per day:

  • Walk- you can walk around the neighborhood, at the mall, walk the dog, park farther from the entrance of a store, or even take the stairs
  • Garden or do yard work
  • Wash the car
  • Vacuum or sweep
  • Join Silver Sneakers or another exercise group (Check to see if your insurance will cover this fee!)

The goal is to keep moving and stay fit which will enable you to enjoy life to its fullest.
